radR is an open source platform for acquiring and analyzing radar data, which features:
live acquisition and display of data from radar digitizing hardware
live target recognition and track building
recording of full-scan or target-only raw data archives for later playback and processing
a graphical interface that allows live modification of processing parameters
customization via user-defined functions written in the R language
As a research tool, emphasis is placed on flexibility, extensibility, user access to all stages of data processing, and the ability to share data and new processing techniques with other users. The software has been used mainly with stationary marine radars for tracking bird movement, but other applications are possible.
A description of the software, accompanied by a 'primer' on the use of radar in ornithological studies has been published in BMC-Ecology. If you use radR for your research, please cite that publication.
